1968: Set up his first company which produced inflatable objects.
1970s: Designed the interiors of three Parisian nightclubs: Le Chalet du lac, La Main bleue (1976) and Les Bains-douches (1978).
1979: Founded the "Starck Product" company.
1982: Refurbished the private apartment of French President François Mitterrand at the Élysée Palace.
1984: Designed the interior of the Café Costes in Paris as well as other cafes and nightclubs, such as Manin in Tokyo and Teatriz in Madrid.
1988: Created the interiors for the Royalton Hotel in New York.
1990: Fitted out the Paramount Hotel.
1991: Played a leading role in the construction of the Groningen Museum in the Netherlands.
From 1989 to 1990, Starck designed the La Flamme building for the Asahi brewery and the Nani Nani office building for Rikugo, both in Japan; in 1991, he designed the Le Baron Vert office complex in Osaka for Meisei.
He also designed a series of residential buildings, including Lemoult (Paris 1987), L'Angle (Antwerp 1991), 18 rental properties in Los Angeles in 1991 and a private home in Madrid the same year. He even designed a factory for the French knife-maker Laguiole (1989) and facilities for an organic products manufacturer near Bordeaux (1991).
Since the 1980s, Starck has also created a number of furniture designs and collections for French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Swiss companies. His output as an industrial designer is highly diverse: objects for the O.W.O. series, noodles for Panzani, boats for Beneteau, mineral-water bottles for Glacier, kitchen appliances for Alessi, toothbrushes for Fluocaril, luggage for Vuitton, street furniture for JCDecaux, office furniture for Vitra, as well as vehicles, computers, doorknobs, eyeglasses, etc. Since 2005, Starck has also designed for Virgin Galactic and Fossil.
Starck, who lives and works in Paris, has received numerous prizes and awards. His creations are part of the permanent collection of several European and American museums, including the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris as well as the Museum of Design in London.
Starck creates objects and furnishings which are simple yet inventive. He is attached to the symbolic expression of form and space.
